Spend a day in the English Garden in Munich

Updated: Dec 16, 2022

There's nothing quite like spending a sunny day in Munich's enchanting English Garden - even if you're in Germany. The famous Englischer Garten in Munich is one of the most famous and beautiful sights of the city. And it won't even cost you a penny to explore it on your own.

Set in 90 acres of lush parkland in the heart of Munich, the stunning Englischer Garten has some irrefutable links with that green and pleasant land. Not only was it designed by Englishman Sir Benjamin Thompson, but also the style of gardening used in landscaping is known as English gardening, in honor of its well-known pioneer, Capability Brown. More than 200 years after its grand opening, it's still bustling with locals and tourists coming rain or shine - all just a short drive from the Park Inn by Radisson Munich Frankfurter Ring.

In an English country garden

An English garden is one of the few urban parks in the world large enough to house pastures of farmland and, in certain areas, flocks of sheep. The northern half of the English Garden is overgrown with tall grass and has access to the nearby River Isar. The New Amphitheater is a great place of peace and quiet - when it's not hosting performances for enthusiastic amateurs in the summer months. To the south, the open spaces are fast filling with sunflowers, jugglers and musicians testing their skills, with a busier atmosphere attracting a friendly and trendy crowd.
